Absolutely stellar meal and experience. Had a reservation at 7:30 and got there a bit early (7) to see if we could get a drink at the bar beforehand. Although crowded, we were able to get a drink in a few minutes. Whiskey sour, egg white, straight up was JUST how I like it. We found an area to stand while waiting for our table. Exactly at 7:30 on the dot, our table was ready. We sat outside and they turned the heaters on as it was pretty breezy. We all got another cocktail and ordered apps. Beef tartare and oysters are NOT to be missed!! Perfect combo of flavors on both - truly a treat. I got the grilled pork shoulder for my entree. Truly outstanding, tender, & paired perfectly with the veggies. 100% recommend. My dad got the duck meatloaf and my mom the bass. Duck meatloaf was great... I had a taste and it exceeded expectations. Didn't try the bass but my mom loved it. Now onto dessert... we were pretty full but didn't want to miss out on the great dessert offerings. I'm a sucker for anything almond, so we had to get the almond cake. Great choice!! Also a chocolate chip cookie I just can't skip on... Ordered that as well and couldn't say better things. Cannot finish the review without mentioning the exceptional service. I'll note it was a tad slow, but we were enjoying each other's company so didn't mind. Our waiter was attentive and the entire staff didn't skip a beat. Had a great experience at the Gramercy Tavern and would totally recommend it to anybody looking for a nice upscale but cozy, comfy meal in New York. We will be back!!
Great service, tasty food, nice decor. Good wines, too! Came here with family for a celebration, and it was a lovely time!
Went to the back room at Gramercy Tavern and it was an unreal experience! The tasting menu was so perfect for the food that I like and every dish was so good! I very rarely like every dish that's on a tasting menu and that was the case here. Every dish had a main ingredient that was the star of the show and cooked really well, but I also really liked the unique flavors that the chefs used in the dishes. I really liked the combination of flavors and the different mouthfeel from some ingredients. Some highlights were the lamb and the arctic char as well as the pasta with chorizo and corn. I came here for a birthday and the birthday cake was incredible! It was made with coconut and banana and was absolutely divine. I can't wait to come back!
THE BEST deal from restaurant week. Though $60/per person leans on the pricier side for lunch, it was worth every penny, and my partner and I saved $$$ too! The service was also top notch and they were nice enough to refill our bread - though we were absolutely stuffed at the end of the meal. - Lumache, 5/5: creamy, light and flavorful Aldente pasta with a slight spicy kick - Broccolini salad, 5/5: not a salad girl but this was sooo flavorful. Nice roasted pine nuts with a deep roasted and creamy sauce - Duck, 4.5/5: juicy, crispy skin, delicate flavors - Hanger Steak, 5/5: medium rare but it was well done ;), crispy veggies underneath and each bite was well seasoned - Table bread, 5/5: soft softttt and warm potato rolls(?) with rich room temperature butter (we requested this bread twice!) - Cheese Sampler, 4/5: super funky cheeses (a Brie, blue cheese and Gouda) paired with sour cherries - Peach Cobbler, 5/5: not too sweet, ice cream melted beautifully on the hot cobbler This is not an ad :') but we paid for the meal through InKind and our $120 bill ended up for only $20!! We were lucky to get a $100 coupon from the app... so of course this was very worth the splurge
We went here for restaurant week which was lunch-only. The offering was a $60 3-course prixe fixe, a quite a bargain for a popular Michelin-starred restaurant in NYC. We split the beef tartare and hamachi appetizers, as well as the roasted duck breast and the smoked wagyu brisket. All the food was delicious, although I couldn't finish the beef tartare appetizer, because it was a large portion for such a rich food. The duck and wagyu were perfectly cooked. I forget what dessert was but it was seasonal and fresh and was also delicious- get whatever they are offering that day. Cocktails are $19 and up but were also great. The true difference in eating at this caliber of restaurant is the service which was spectacular. The hosts, management, and our servers were all polite, friendly, and top-tier professional despite us being there for a (relative) bargain meal. I've been to restaurants that look down on restaurant week diners, but Gramercy Tavern did not! I highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion or important dinner.
Cool and makes a lot of sense taste so yummy I really love the chicken and rice and also chips
We have been looking forward to dining at the Gramercy Tavern for some time. I was able to snare a reservation for Restaurant Week. Only lunch is available under the Restaurant Week program. The menu offers three courses for $60, so a bit of a premium to dine here. Lots of live flowers adorn the dining room, and some are huge. We were here on a hot muggy summer day. The water glasses were small, requiring refills. I should have asked for ice, in retrospect. The dinner rolls came straight from the oven. My wife had hamachi, raw fish with snap peas , coconut, lime, appetizer. I had lumache, Shrimp, which was delicately flavored shrimp and al dente snail shaped pasta. Al dente is a bit chewier than what I am used to, but it was heartier and very good. Nice smooth sauce and the shrimp was buttery smooth. The roast duck was delicious, but I only wish there was more of it. For dessert, I had apricot shortcake. Now the portion size for this dish was disappointing. I was expecting something in the order of a slice of strawberry shortcake, but this ended up being the size of a very small cookie. If you come with a big appetite, you may end up wanting a hot dog afterwards. Service and ambiance were nice, but I would not want to come here and pay full price.
I went to Gramercy Tavern last week with a friend for lunch. Lunch reservations aren't so difficult to get during the weekdays, which is great. The restaurant is large, with a la carte in the Tavern and a prix fixe or tasting in the Dining Room. We had lunch in the Dining Room and opted for the tasting ($95 for three savory courses and one dessert course). Our tasting consisted of: Roasted Carrots (green garlic, quinoa, pumpkin seeds) (4.5/5): This was a good dish. The carrots were cooked well and had a snap to them but weren't too hard. The accompaniments paired well with the carrot. Pan-Seared Arctic Char (asparagus, crab, basil) (4/5): The fish was good, prepared nicely. It came with roe and a nice basil sauce. I did particularly enjoy the bed of crab that the char sat on. Roasted Duck (arrowhead spinach, turnips, wild rice) (4/5): The duck was well prepared, and I really enjoyed the wild rice with it. Apricot Shortcake (green tea, honey, Lillet Blanc) (4/5): This was a really nice dessert, but incredibly rich and buttery. It was a heavy end to a very filling lunch. I enjoyed this experience at Gramercy Tavern. The tasting was really good and a decent price. I would return.
If you asked ChatGPT for an "elevated dining option in NYC with a seasonal menu and a slightly loud atmosphere and a Michelin star" I'd expect Gramercy Tavern to come up. (Note: I just entered exactly that into ChatGPT and Gramercy Tavern came up. Boom.) If you're a first-timer, go for the seasonal entrees. The burger will always be there...so tis the season to order the duck meatloaf and brick pressed chicken! From now on, when I'm asked how I like my chicken prepared (because it's obviously a question people receive all the time), I'll gently but firmly request that it be pressed by a brick. It's the only way. The chocolate chip cookie was fine, but don't go in expecting that it'll blow your mind.
